Cell Towers, Disease, and Cancer Clusters. Cause to be Concerned? You Decide!

7 clusters of cancer and other major sicknesses have been discovered around mobile phone masts, raising issues over the technology's potential effect on health. Studies of the sites show high incidences of cancer, brain haemorrhages and raised blood pressure inside a radius of four hundred yards of mobile telephone masts. One of the studies, in Warwickshire, showed a cluster of 31 cancers around a single street. 1 / 4 of the thirty workers at a special faculty close to the 90ft high mast have developed tumours since two thousand, while another quarter have suffered important health issues.

The mast is being pulled down by the mobile telephone after the display of the evidenceoperator O2 by local demonstrators. While rejecting any links to ill-health, O2 admitted the choice was obviously rare and surprising. Telephone masts have incited protests through Britain with thousands of folk objecting every week to planning applications.

There are roughly 47,000 masts in the United Kingdom. Dr John Hiker , a scientist who assembled the cluster studies with aid from local campaigners in Devon, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands, said that he was convinced they showed a potential link between the angle of the beam of radiation emitted from the masts' antennae and diseases discovered in local populations.

Masts should be moved away from conurbations and colleges and the power turned down, he revealed. Some scientists already believe such a link exists and studies in other EU states suggest a rise in cancers close to masts. In 2005 Sir William Stewart, CEO of the Health Protection Agency, claimed he found 4 such studies to be or worry but the health risk stayed unproven.
