After months of
problems with my wireless router suffering from signal
degradation and HBC switching out the router five times, the
problem has been narrowed down to the fact that both
wireless routers and the smart meters recently installed by
Xcel Energy both run on 2.4GH frequency.
HBC has gone way
over the top trying to resolve the issues but cannot; there
is no way to shield a wireless network from radio frequency
and still have it operate. So it comes down to Xcel Energy.
Their first
response was to deny that they had put smart meters on my
building, although when I moved in, there were mechanical
meters and now there are digital ones.
Their second
response was: "We are not going to remove the meters, and
they don't interfere with Wi-Fi."
But a simple
search on Google shows millions of reports by consumers of
just that.
So what is to be
done to resolve this problem? My ISP can do nothing and the
source of the interference denies it's existence.
Xcel says that
the meters put out no more RF than a cell phone, a lie, a RF
meter shows they put out as much RF as a cell tower, a level
that is deemed a health hazard in Maine, California and
other states.
It is time for
Minnesotans to know of these issues and to move toward some
resolution of the smart meter problem. Once again big
corporations are willing to degrade our other paid services
and our health to save a few bucks.
