There is a horrendous amount of public dispute over the
safety and reliability of the new 'smart meters' that BC
Hydro are determined to ram down our throats.
I was approached at my door with a fellow from 'Corix'
(representing BC Hydro) holding my new 'smart meter' in a
box under his arm.
After a ten minute conversation, and him filling in some
sort of a form, he was putting his 'smart meter' back in his
little van, and moving on.
I explained my concerns about the meter with him and tried,
very politely to change my mind, and reminded me of 'the
consequences' that may happen at a later date with BC Hydro.
What I have just read in today's "Letter to the Editor"
(Wed. June 6th, Echo) frankly, scares the hell out of me.
E. Snaith wrote that after the installation of a new 'smart
meter, there was a power surge, and all his appliances
burned up, including 220v baseboard heaters, and with the
smoke damage from the damaged articles, the of replacement,
and repairs, cost of $7,000.00.
Then, to add insult to injury, BC Hydro admitted there was a
problem with the 'smart meter', replaced it, then turned
down his claim for the damage that THEY HAD CREATED.
Other nightmare stories include huge bills (up to $5,000.00
for a two month billing period, for a rancher with a senior
and his wife, in one case, heard on the radio talk show
"Bill Good" CKNW 980).
